New board members and making more connections

Welcome to another issue of CESA news. I am delighted to confirm there are two new members on the CESA Board, elected at the annual general meeting in August: Sharon Feldman and Cindy Towns. Sharon is a clinical ethicist at the Children’s Bioethics Centre in Melbourne. She worked previously as a health care lawyer and is currently pursuing a PhD on the practice of clinical ethics. Cindy is an internal medicine physician and geriatrician in New Zealand/Aotearoa, Clinical Ethics Advisor for Wellington and Hutt Valley, and an Associate Professor at the University of Otago. Read more about the expertise and interests of Sharon, Cindy and other Board members here.

Below there is also news about upcoming events, including Roundtable online next week, a Clinical Ethics Advisory Group Special Interest Meeting in Christchurch the day before AABHL in December, as well as a save the date for the next Sydney Clinical Ethics Intensive to be held in March 2026.

Connections continue to grow among the CESA community, and we are working to link people with similar interests and needs in the clinical ethics space. Tania Moerenhout has reached out looking to connect with other CESA members working on questions to do with clinical ethics evaluation. It is an important and ongoing area of work for many of us in this space – please do reach out if you have something to share and/or would be interested in a related member activity. Read more below about this and other topics of interest for the community.

In this edition we are also pleased to present another member Q&A to learn more about our community and shared interests, this time from Ainsley Newson at Sydney Health Ethics.

With thanks, Linda Sheahan, President, CESA
